Ubisoft Ready To Do Battle With GTA V With "Watch Dogs"
Ubisoft's executive director Alain Corre has stated he is ready to do battle with Rockstar Games when the ambitious open-world title Watch Dogs is released later this year, according to Edge. Unlike Rockstar's next project, Watch Dogs will be available on both current and next generation consoles when it launches alongside the PlayStation 4 this holiday season, which some say gives it the edge over Grand Theft Auto V. Watch Dogs was the stand out launch title when Sony held their PS4 press conference in New York last week, and will be available on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. It is expected to be released just a couple of months after GTA V and Corre believes the title is worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the fervently anticipated sandbox title. He said:
"Grand Theft Auto is one of the biggest brands in the industry and everybody respects the brand and well have fun playing the next one too. "But I think Watch Dogs positioning is also on next-gen, bringing a lot of features connectivity, interactivity, companion gaming and so on which is bringing some freshness to the genre."When Corre was pressed further on whether Ubisoft is afraid of taking on the GTA series and GTA V with Watch Dogs later this year, he replied:
"When you have a great product in our or any other industry, it also excites the appetite of a lot of consumers in that category. People interested in racing games will buy many racing games if the games are great. "So we think that we can even benefit from the fact that Grand Theft Auto is coming. The spirit will be that this kind of game is great fun and I think Watch Dogs can also bring a lot of the same fans."Little is known of Watch Dogs since its unveiling last week. A trailer was shown at the New York PS4 event which displayed stunning graphics and an open-world gaming setting similar in style to Grand Theft Auto. The trailer followed protagonist Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled computer hacker who has the apparent ability to hack into various electronic systems, either to obtain and control information or to destroy those devices completely at specific times. Watch Dogs will launch alongside the PlayStation 4 this holiday season, though it is still unknown as to which territories it will arrive first.
