Uncharted 4: 9 Annoying Things That Stop It Being Perfect

1. The Trailers Showed Every Major Level

When did it become the 'in thing' to give away all your major set-pieces and plot-points in the trailer? Batman V Superman suffered most, but after Naughty Dog revealed the HD collection of The Last of Us by opening with Joel holding his dying daughter in his hands, the trailers for Uncharted 4 yet again spoiled far too much.

Take the fact that the very first footage we saw of A Thief's End showed Nate meeting up with Sam on an island. In the game, this could've been a very pivotal moment: the story opens with a boat crash after all, leading to the fact that Nate doesn't know if his brother is alive. This level comes right at the end of the story, too, and the game plays it out with a lengthy expanse of climbing before the two meet up. However, we as the audience already know exactly where Sam is, having seen the reunion in the trailers, so any semblance of "Is he alive/What condition is he in?" is lost.

This happens throughout, where it dawns on you that every major set-piece has been included in the pre-release footage, many of which involving specific characters. When the race was on to get across Madagascar and see if Sam was alive in a specific tower, I knew from the trailer we'd happen upon him riding a motorcycle. Even the repercussion of Nate hiding his exploits from Elena was shown, as her saddened face from discovering the deception was all over the marketing materials.

There's an inherent joy in looking up at a rollercoaster and then riding it for yourself, but for Uncharted 4, almost every location and major part of the story was already out there for all to see.
