Wii U Dual GamePad Only Available "Well After Launch"

It might be a while before you can use two Wii U GamePads at the same time.

Nintendo hasn't said much about the ability to use multiple Gamepads with one Wii U; basically the only thing they have said is that you will be able to do it after much speculation last year that it would not be possible. Today we learned that the ability to use two GamePads at the same time would not be available right away. Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime:
"Games need to be built that can take advantage of the two GamePad controllers, It's going to be well after launch for those game experiences to come to life."
In addition, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata made it clear that GamePads screen almost didn't make the final cut of features to be offered by the Wii U. Iwata made it clear that he was very worried about the price of a GamePad being too high that it wouldn't be feasible to bring another screen to the Wii U:
"Sometime during that final discussion we almost gave up on the idea of the additional screen. This was due to our concern over the expected high cost, it may not have been feasible to create this and sell it at a reasonable price point for the consumers."
So the Wii U will be able to support two screens, but we may not see any games that take advantage of the two GamePads for months or even a year after the console launches. It apparently is dependent on game developers to create games that take advantage of dual GamePads; which might not be a good thing considering how few developers where willing to implement things like motion plus into their Wii games. Something that hasn't been made clear though, is whether the GamePads only work with one specific Wii U (meaning to get dual GamePads to work, a person would have to buy an extra GamePad) or friends transfer GamePads between systems? I would think GamePads would be able to link up between different Wii U's but I can't confirm this until Nintendo makes an official announcement.
