The Goonies, Brolin starred in skateboard drama
Thrashin' before being offered the lead role in
21 Jump Street, a role he turned down in favour of
Private Eye, a show that was subsequently cancelled mid-way through the first season. The role in
21 Jump Street eventually went to
Johnny Depp and helped kick-start his career. In 1989, Brolin landed a role on Western TV series
The Young Riders alongside the youngest of the Baldwins
Stephen Baldwin. Brolin was quiet for a few years before his next notable role in 1996s comedy F
lirting With Disaster alongside
Ben Stiller. The following year he starred alongside
Mira Sorvino in
Guillermo del Toro's Mimic and with
Ewan McGregor in
Nightwatch.
Brolins patchy work continued with big screen adaptation of classic TV series
The Mod Squad and the
Reese Witherspoon starring
Best Laid Plans. In 2000 he starred in
Paul Verhoven's invisible man opus
Hollow Man. 2003 saw Josh Brolin return to TV as idealistic Senator Bill Sterling in
Mr. Sterling; the show was cancelled after ten episodes. He went onto play bad guy Bates in 2005s
Paul Walker/Jessica Alba sun kissed thriller
Into the Blue before his revival began with his role in
Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse. Brolin appeared in Rodriguezs
Planet Terror segment as the shady Dr. Block.
2007 was definitely the second coming of Josh Brolin. In addition to
Grindhouse, he also appeared in Oscar nominee In the
Valley of Elah... Oscar winner
No Country for Old Men, as the real heart and soul of the picture as the unforgettable Llewelyn Moss...
and
Sir. Ridley Scott's American Gangster, where he stole every scene he was in. Brolin will next be seen in
W., Oliver Stone's George W. Bush biopic where he will have the unenvious task of playing the much maligned U.S. President in what is without doubt one of the most spotlighted movie roles for years.
He also has a big part in
Milk, a film directed by
Gus Van Sant about the life of gay rights activist Harvey Milk with
Sean Penn in the titular role, once again proving he is one of the most in demand actors in Hollywood right now. Brolin recently made the news for the wrong reasons when he and
W. co-star
Jeffrey Wright, who plays Colin Powell in the film, were arrested and spent a night in the slammer for a bar fight while out celebrating wrapping the film I can only dream that they were in full costume at the time
