An INCEPTION into Nolan's Catwoman?

Chris Nolan will soon be spending several months in the company of the charming, beautiful and highly talented Marion Cotillard this summer, as last week we heard she had been cast in his original science fiction movie Inception. The significance of the time spent with Cotillard on his future casting decisions may become evident when pre-production really kicks in for Batman 3, because Cotillard fits all the criteria that you would be looking for in a Selina Kyle. Aka a Catwoman, if you will. cotillard-catwoman She has amazing femme fatale eyes. The kind that even Bruce Wayne who won't want to fall for a woman again after losing Rachel, will be hopeless to resist. In July we shall see her tame and fascinate Johnny Depp's notorious gangster John Dillinger and help drive crazy Daniel-Day Lewis' film director with her beauty in Nine. She is that kind of special creature of feminine perfection. The ones that Raymond Chandler and Ian Fleming would write about. 0896598691interior05 She has a feistyness about her but also the down to Earth, girly natural laugh that Selina has in everyday life. Or at least she did in Batman Returns. Physically she is good (tall, in shape and flexible, a natural beauty) and well, we know she can act (she's only a year out from winning a Best Actress Oscar). She is French but then again, is that really a problem? Who says Catwoman has to be American anyway and I'm sure she could perfect an American accent in no time if it was really required. We should also note that her next movie Public Enemies, she worked opposite Christian Bale, which once again just adds to the almost inevitably about her casting. Jett at Batman on Film put me onto the idea this morning, and I have to agree. If Catwoman is the road they are going down for the next movie (and I can't see it being anything other than The Penguin, The Riddler, Catwoman... even with a Joker return) then there is absolutely no better audition than working directly with the man who is crafting that franchise. Nolan already has shown he likes to keep things in the family, casting Christian Bale and Michael Caine in his magician thriller The Prestige, so soon after working with the duo in Batman Begins. We have also just seen Cillian Murphy cast in Inception, the third time Nolan will work with the British actor. Time and time again, history proves that directors become attached to working with the same actors over time, especially ones at the top of their games (Scorsese/De Niro, Spielberg/Hanks, Burton/Depp, Hitchcock/Grant and Stewart). Cotillard will have to at least be considered if Catwoman is the next villain. In fact as far back as August, well before anyone knew anything about Inception, Cotillard was already a fan favourite among Batman fans speculating on who they would like to see as the female anti-hero and sometime love interest. One of them was savvy enough to even come up with a fan-made photo... cotillardcatwoman-2Deviant Art then made a poster with Cotillard... catwoman1 I repeat it's not news, just something to think about and discuss this Monday morning.
