Brad Pitt will work with Aronofsky after all
Brad Pitt knocks out Matt Damon in the qualifying rounds, and takes his place in The Fighter!
Coming Soon says that Brad Pitt will star in Darren Aronofsky's The Fighter, replacing Matt Damon in the role of Dick Eklund. As the movie is being fast-tracked because of the strike, it seems likely that Damon couldn't commit to filming possibly because of Gus Van Sant's Harvey Milk biopic which he is tentatively committed too, and also the Iraqi drama The Imperial Life in the Emerald City, his new movie with Paul Greengrass which should begin production early next year. Still cast is Mark Wahlberg who plays 'Irish' boxer Mickey Ward, who nabbed the world lightweight title with the help of his once down and out half-brother and trainer. That half brother/trainer is Brad Pitt and although they don't look as like as Wahlberg and Damon, I don't think that will bother me too much. The Fighter will finally see Brad Pitt and Darren Aronofsky work together after Pitt was set to star in The Fountain before he bailed several weeks before filming because of his concerns over the script and the project took many years to recover and in truth it probably never fully did as a financial entity. Aronofsky is not holding a grudge though and he's happy to go with Brad Pitt once again. This should be a terrific movie and I'm really interested to see what Aronofsky can do with 'straight' material if you know what I mean. The movie will rely much on Pitt and Wahlberg's chemistry and Pitt for me, is trying to revive his career after a spell of a couple of bad movies. I mean by the sounds of things here he will be playing second fiddle to Wahlberg who is clearly the movie's lead when you read the synopsis. That wouldn't have happened with Pitt a few years ago.
