Conan finally making it to the new Millennium

Conan the Barbarian, a character that launched the career of Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982. The deal comes around six weeks after it was revealed that Warner Brothers weren't intersted in renegotiating a deal to keep the rights of the series they have struggled to get off the ground for seven years and it was said New Line Cinema were the firm favourites to take over. In the end though it's landed at Millennium who beat off four other suitors (one of which were New Line), in what is probably their most ambitious project to date. The company are also behind the Pacino/De Niro thriller Righteous Kill and John Rambo. So what can this studio do different where the mighty Warner Brothers failed? Well the first thing is to sit-down and work out exactly what type of film they want to make with the character. There's so many different interpretations of Conan, I think that hindered all the previous developments because the studio wanted one thing and the writers always delivered another. Then I would hire three different screenwriters to give it their best shot (sure it will cost them, but they have paid such a big sum already so they might as well give it a go) and see which draft comes out the best and incorporate the best bits of each into a cool film. Millennium want production on this to begin in the Spring and they don't want to leave this project hanging around. It's now a top priority for them, so they are probably looking at the summer of 2009 for a release date.
