Darabont sounding bitter over Indy IV
So the rollacoaster that is The Adventures of Indiana Jones IV: The Movie That is Forever In Turmoil took another turn this week when Frank Darabont talked about his disapointment over his script rejection for Indy IV and his belief that the movie will never happen. Quotes from his interview with CHUD... "I worked for over a year on that; I worked very close with Steven Spielberg. He was ecstatic with the result and was ready to shoot it two years ago. He was very, very happy with the script and said it was the best draft of anything since Raiders of the Lost Ark"."And then you have George Lucas read it and say, Yeah, I dont think so, I dont like it. And then he resets it to zero when Spielberg is ready to shoot it that coming year, is a real kick to the nuts. You can only waste so much time and so many years of your life on experiences like that, you can only get so emotionally invested and have the rug pulled out from under you before you say enough of that". When asked about whether he thinks another Indiana Jones movie will ever happen... "I dont think so. I dont think so. But thats just my opinion..... I just think its fantastically bizarre that for a project that people have been trying to crack for ten years and have a writer come in and finally crack it and have a director who happens to be Steven Spielberg, one of the greatest directors of all time, and then say, No, I dont think so Its just bizarre to me. I cant get into Georges head". The script was said to be set around the 1950's and involved UFO invasions which presumably didn't involve Jar Jar Binks, which was why Lucas rejected it. Darabont sure sounds very bitter about it and has since claimed he will only focus on directing and not screenwriting after his treatment over Indy IV. CHUD have also just posted a great interview with Darabont about his upcoming Stephen King adaptation The Mist and about the remake to Fahrenheit 451, which is well worth a read.
