Denzel Washington picks up THE BOOK OF ELI

Joins the post apocalytpic drama from the directors of FROM HELL.

Denzel Washington will star in the Book of Eli, a post apocalyptic drama that will be the next film from The Hughes Brothers who last helmed the graphic novel adaptation of From Hell some seven years ago. Washington will play a lone hero who must fight across America to bring society the knowledge that could be key to it's in a not-too-distant "end of the world" future. The project was first spoken about on May 22nd 2007. Don't Say A Word and Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes writer Anthony Peckham has wrote the latest draft which was first written by Akira scribe Gary Whitta. Joel Silver is producing for the movie financed by Warners and Alcon Entertainment says Variety. Presumably, it will be a more epic blockbuster style film, aka I Am Legend, rather than a smaller one... I couldn't image Washington doing a Indie genre movie. Shooting will begin in January and should be the next project for Denzel who has the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 due out next August.
