Disney making a TWILIGHT TOWER OF TERROR movie?

RUMOR ALERT. RUMOR ALERT. RUMOR ALERT. I can't stress that enough. Though I do like Bloody Disgusting and have trusted them many times in the past with early scoops, with that faith being justified a few days later when I see the trade announcement in Variety or The Hollywood Reporter. So when they post a story from a close "source", you can usually put your house on it. According to the site, Disney are in the early planning stages for making a movie based on their theme park ride THE TWILIGHT TOWER OF TERROR which opened in 1994 and as a frequent visitor to the park, is my absolute favourite ride. tz-tower-of-terror-400-3 The Mouse, who have made a fortune with three PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies (and more on the way) are already planning movies based off their rides TOMORROWLAND and JUNGLE CRUISE... and it's no surprise to see this ride added to that list. The stumbling block at the moment appears to be over rights issues as Disney only own the ride and not the concept/name outside of their parks. That belongs to Warner Bros. who own the classic TWILIGHT ZONE t.v. show upon which the ride is based. And where it gets even more tricky is that Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio are working on a TWILIGHT ZONE movie, so they might want to keep the ride as a backup for a future project/sequel... or more likely won't want to see Disney working on something that could potentially harm WB's film, or make Disney a profit on the back of one of their films. You get me? For those who have been on the ride, the concept is a bolt of lightening hit the tower in October 31st 1939 and transported the elevator full of passengers to "The Twilight Zone". The plan for the film is to "follow a group of characters that enter a bizarre world where nothing is as it seems".

Could it work as a movie? Well for a start it needs to be better than THE HAUNTED MANSION with Eddie Murphy and for those who have seen it, TOWER OF TERROR, a 1997 t.v. movie based off the ride that starred Steve Guttenberg and a young Kirsten Dunst... tower-of-terror
