D.J. Caruso directing JACK THE GIANT KILLER!

Looks like D.J. Caruso's adaptation of Y: THE LAST MAN is not ready yet. Variety report Caruso will next direct the grim fairy tale JACK THE GIANT KILLER for WB's New Line, the classic fable which goes darker than JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, apparently. The tale was previously adapted in 1962 from the director and star duo (Nathan Juran and actor Kerwin Matthews) who gave us THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD and was known for it's extensive use of stop motion animation from the great Ray Harryhausen. jack-rw3kr

When a princess is kidnapped, a long-standing peace between men and giants becomes threatened, and a young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giant kingdom to rescue her.
Well the plot sure does sound like JACK AND THE BEANSTALK. The exciting added ingredient is that the movie looks to be set in the fantasy world and there's going to be no attempt to ground it in a modern day reality or setting. Caruso whose DISTURBIA and EAGLE EYE both starred Shia LaBeouf, will direct from a script by Mark Bomback (DECEPTION) working from an earlier draft by Darren Lemke (a 2004 Dean Cain movie titled LOST).

Love classic fantasy tales... I have high hopes for this.
