Emma Stone, the natural blonde, will play Gwen Stacy in SPIDER-MAN reboot
Did you know that Emma Stone, who has become a breakout star in the past few years whilst sporting a red-head look, is actually a natural blonde? Me neither, and nor did any of my peers. A Sony press release says the 'Easy A' actress has indeed accepted Sony's offer to join the cast of their still untitled 'Spider-Man' reboot.... but actually as Gwen Stacy, the first love of Peter Parker's life. Because of her look, we all presumed she would play Mary Jane Watson but director Marc Webb says "it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde." A little creepy, but I gotcha. Stone has apparently reverted back to blonde for the currently shooting civil-rights drama 'The Help', not something I would have suggested if I were her marketing agent, not when her red-head image has done well for her so far. Despite Bryce Dallas Howard playing Stacy with much to admire in the last film, it's clear the character is much safer a bet for Stone. We think Webb will want to shake things up a bit for this reboot (and he should, otherwise why bother?), so we think Stacy will be the main love interest focus for the first couple of movies, with MJ more of a third wheel. Hiring someone to play the Stacy role first, backs up that idea. There's also less baggage with the Stacy role, there isn't the stigma of three movies with Kirsten Dunst. Also, the probability is the on-screen Stacy arc will follow her same fate in the comics, which might just suit Stone, who hopefully has bigger aspirations than this 'Spider-Man' reboot. Marc Webb directs from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt ('Zodiac') in December, with a 3D release of July 3rd, 2012 planned. Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) are the only names cast right now, with Phillip Seymour Hoffman rumoured as Venom, astonishingly. The search continues for a red headed Mary Jane, and presumably Harry Osbourne, Aunt May and other staple characters.
