Gerard Butler ESCAPES remake

Escape from New York loses it's lead star, but gains a possible future director.

Escape from New York has been at the very least post-poned until the actor's strike is over next summer. After the recent depature of the movie's second attached director Brett Ratner, news has come through from Variety that Gerard Butler has also left the project citing creative differences as the main factor. Butler obviously has sense because it's been revealed that Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3, U571) has been hired to re-write the script with a option to direct it in the future. It's quite obvious this picture was becoming more and more a disaster with each passing bit of news and when Len Wiseman left the project some months back, I actually thought Butler would leave then. New Line are remaining stubbon on the project. Despite losing it's 'second choice' director and it's lead star (which was probably the best actor they would ever be able to find to do this film) in a matter of days, they have gone out quickly to hire someone else and still want to make the film eventually. If there was ever a chance for New Line to scrap the project though and cut their loses it would be now.
