HELLBOY 3 to star the Universal Monsters?
Once again talk turns to Hellboy vs. Frankenstein, The Wolf Man and Dracula for the 3rd movie!
It's been exactly a year and two days since Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro came out with this killer quote which got horror fanboys all over the world extremely excited. This came shortly after Hellboy found a new home at Universal Pictures... I must say that Im having a great experience right now at Universal, because I find that their understanding of Hellboy as a possibility is so great. My hope is that if everything goes well and we continue , Hellboy can start fighting the Universal monsters! I would love to see that. Man I remember when he said that. I'm such a Universal horror geek I remember getting so excited that day just thinking about Hellboy going up against the likes of Frankenstein and The Wolf Man. Then things went quiet which was to be expected as del Toro was busy with Hellboy 2. Now one year later, Mike Richardson the head of Dark Horse Entertainment (who produce Hellboy) has come out with a similar quote to the IESB.

I think it will happen. Hellboy 3 will feature the Universal Monsters, I'm almost convinced of it. Frankenstein is a must but then you have to think about the other properties. We know already of a Wolf Man film from Mark Romanek which might stop that character from appearing in the film (although that film will have been released well before work on Hellboy 3 begins) and there are many movies with Dracula and The Creature from the Black Lagoon currently been made. It might not be so easy to weave those characters in without the potential threat of upsetting other directors and producers at Universal. Still it's a very cool idea. I would love to see it happen and after the dissapointment that Stephen Sommers made with a similar idea in 2004 with Van Helsing, this could be the one that brings the movie in our heads to life. By the way, you should check out the new Hellboy site and look at the concept designs and images over there for next summer's movie. Very cool.
