Is George Clooney THE LONE RANGER?

Only slightly less surprising than Johnny Depp as Tonto is the AICN story that went up yesterday claiming that Hollywood A-lister George Clooney was seriously considering the lead role in THE LONE RANGER over at Disney. If true and the talks go well, it would be the second time he has played a masked vigilante in a summer blockbuster. The last time was a disaster in Joel Schmaucher's cartoonish BATMAN & ROBIN and if the actor wasn't so God damned talented, it would have killed his career. It's a miracle he survived that role... A trusted AICN source told them that Clooney is in talks for the movie. If Clooney does accept, it would be the first time he has ever worked alongside Depp. At 47, with a ton of excellent works of cinema from this century as both an actor and a director, one would hope he would sensibly turn this offer down or that the hard to believe rumor, is false. From the writers of POTC, the movie will reinvent the early radio and t.v. masked Texas Ranger who along with his dependable horse Silver and his sidekick Tonto, serve to fight injustice. He is similar to Batman, but much less dark. The film will be an origin tale, with the view of at least a trilogy, aka PIRATES.
