It's all getting nasty over The Hobbit
Things are starting to get real nasty over the issue of The Hobbit movie. Bob Shaye of New Line told Sci-Fi Wire this week that Peter Jackson will never be welcomed back at New Line, as he believes all Jackson is hunting for is even more money and that in reality he has no desire to make a Hobbit movie. This is what he said, taken from Dark Horizons.... "I don't care about Peter Jackson anymore. He wants to have another $100 million or $50 million, whatever he's suing us for. He doesn't want to sit down and talk about it. He thinks that we owe him something after we've paid him over a quarter of a billion dollars. ... Cheers, Peter" This led to Peter Jackson issuing a statement through Variety saying that he found it "regrettable that Bob has chosen to make personal". He went further.... ""Our issue with New Line Cinema has only ever been about their refusal to account for financial anomalies that surfaced from a partial audit of The Fellowship of the Ring. Contrary to recent comments made by Bob Shaye, we attempted to discuss the issues raised by the Fellowship audit with New Line for over a year, but the studio was and continues to be completely uncooperative.......This has compelled us to file a lawsuit to pursue our contractual rights under the law. Nobody likes legal action, but the studio left us with no alternative". Man, things really don't look good for The Hobbit right now. God knows where things go from here. Personally, I can't see this project being made anytime in the near future, and it will more than likely be shelved for once again. This might be the best thing that can happen to the project because the last thing that any of us wants to see is a half-assed attempt at a Tolkien movie, with or without Peter Jackson. source - variety, dark horizons, sci-fi wire
