Jesus, Jim Carrey really has turned into a Yes Man

Jim Carrey's career gone this far down the tubes? If it wasn't bad enough starring in a truly awful sounding comedy from a unfunny British author titled Yes Man it's remarkably just got worse for Carrey, who has probably brought this deal on for himself. Jim, seriously dude. You are struggling to keep the film roles you are attached to at the moment, you can't chuck money away by doing a free movie! The news from IMDB through Deadline Hollywood Daily is that Carrey is shooting his lead role in Yes Man for a 36.2% deal of what is left over from the back-end of the movie's profits. What this means is he isn't getting an up-front cash deal to star in the movie and he isn't getting a profit of the whole film's gross but is instead getting a percentage of what the studio holds back after the production, prints and advertising costs have been weighed up. Here's more from the blog...

In my opinion, this has to be the riskiest deal ever made for a major Hollywood star with a major Hollywood studio on a major Hollywood production. Showbiz attorneys tell me they've made deals with no money upfront and cash-break back end like this for top actors on small films for, say, Paramount Vantage. But never on a big film for a big studio. Yet sources close to Carrey insist that he is "more than comfortable" with this deal. Besides, they tell me, "if it all goes to shit, what does he care? He's wealthy. He doesn't need the money."
Jesus. Carrey has truly gone insane. This is the guy who was at the top of the A-List ladder and was being offered the sort of money Tom Hanks and Matt Damon get now for each picture. At LEAST $20 million with a big percentage also tagged on. This will certainly have been the case in 2003 with Bruce Almighty. But now four years later in 2007, he has signed up for this lame comedy where he is comfortable working for free? My how times have changed and it just goes to show how desperate he is to keep a movie role after so many have fallen through his grasp over the past couple of years.
