Jonah Hex! Jonah Hex! Jonah Hex! Jonah Hex!

jonahhex.jpgMan I love Jonah Hex. For those who don't know, he is a classic DC Comic book anti-hero who was so popular in the 1970's, he got his own series that ran for around 10 years. The series was then killed off but the character wouldn't die. He came back in the 90's, no doubt inspired by things like The X-Files with added Sci-Fi elements and then in 2005 the series began again. I've read the first two trades of the new series and it's gritty, it's dirty, it's sexy and the character of Jonah Hex is so good. It reads like Clint Eastwood and the Spaghetti Westerns that I'm such a big fan of. This is awesome news... The Hollywood Reporter say that the DC franchise Jonah Hex has been picked up by Warner Brothers with the directors of Crank on board to helm. Well, I didn't like Crank so they wouldn't have been my first choice... but I can see the attraction in choosing them. A balls to the wall, fast paced Spaghetti Western sounds uber cool to me. The plan is said to be to go with the Sci-Fi elements of the series which actually I'm ok with. The imagery of Jonah Hex against aliens and the such was fascinating in the comics and to see that on the big screen could be great. I love the blending of genre's and when you blend things with the Western (Back to the Future III, the opening of Ghost Rider) it can turn out to be visually spectacular. So it's another announcement no doubt that was suppose to be kept for the Con but who cares... Jonah Hex is coming to the big screen!
