Ridley Scott to fashion GUCCI!

Variety say that he will direct and produce a movie about the dramatic life of the Gucci family in the 70's and 80's and how this shaped the fashion label into being the $7 billion annual turnover company it is today. The movie will follow Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of the founder of Gucci and is violent power struggle to run the family business. The film will depict his relationships with other businessman and how he earned himself many enemies during his daring fashion ideas and techniques... and what led to his death outside of his own Milan apartment in 1995. His wife was convicted of arranging the killing by gunshot. Very gangster like themes here and you can see why it would attract Ridley Scott after helming AMERICAN GANGSTER to great success this year. This is almost the higher end market of gangsters. Businessman who get themselves to deep into a power struggle and it should make for some fascinating viewing. The exec behind THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA at Fox 2000 pitched the project to Scott and his Scott Free Productions and a deal was soon struck. Once the WGA strike is complete Charles Randolph (THE INTERPRETER, THE LIFE OF DAVID GALE) will put pen to paper on this story. I like it but it's gonna be a while till this one can develop. Scott is currently filming BODY OF LIES with DiCaprio and Crowe before moving on to NOTTINGHAM in March before the strike hits in June. He then has several other potential projects including a Stonehenge thriller, MONOPOLY and BLOOD MERIDIAN which he will have to weigh up alongside GUCCI as he chooses his next project.
