Rumor #1: Wiseman gets his hands on TWO huge projects

Gears of War and the remake to the John Carpenter classic Escape from New York are both rumored to end up in the hands of Len Wiseman. Yes that guy who made that hideous Live Free or Die Hard movie and who has worked on the two Underworld flicks with his partner Kate Beckinsale. The very same guy who either turned down or was turned down over Wolverine. The facts we know so far over Escape from New York is that Gerard Butler will star in the movie which has been written by Ken Nolan, the writer of Black Hawk Down. The thought of Wiseman's take on Escape from New York just gives me the shivers. I'm coming over in a cold sweat already. John Carpenter was always known for his methodical camera work, a pacing style which sometimes turned people off his movies but for fans of his, a style which we all came to love and appreciate. His movies felt real, and as if the camera were just a spectator to the action and not dictating it. The fast cutting, hand-held style of Wiseman however makes movies feel as contrived as anything I've ever seen. He has that studio formula as his directing mentality and it's no wonder they all want him for these big movies because just like Michael Bay, he will deliver exactly what they want time and time again, and make money. Gears of War I'm not so bothered about. That movie is suppose to be fast paced and I have very little vested interest in that game. I know some people have told me it's the god damn best game of the next generation consoles and is the game Halo fans are turning to in their droves. Escape from New York though? Good god. Carpenter how can you let the raping of your classic movies continue?
