Peter Jackson's soon to be shooting adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's first Middle-Earth novel
The Hobbit already has LOTR vets
Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis and
Hugo Weaving set to return (all of them have all but signed their deals) and now comes word of another major name possibly coming back.
Elijah Wood, the lead of the LOTR franchise, has reportedly 'held conversations' about a possible return as Frodo Baggins,
according to Deadline. Very, very curious given the fact his character isn't in The Hobbit novel and it's logistically impossible to think he could be, given the fact Frodo Baggins won't have been born during the events of the novel, though Wood has publically always been welcome to a return and we kinda expect the second film to bridge into LOTR, so maybe it could work? It's also been announced today that Warner Bros. would be wholly financing and distributing (both domestically and internationally) The Hobbit and not the crippled but apparently recovering MGM. Honestly, I'm surprised anyone thought otherwise. The Hobbit begins filming next month in 3D and opens December 2012... official press releases are likely already half-typed up.
