Russell Crowe to lighten up as BILL HICKS?

His next role is in a biopic of the late American comedian?

Now that Ridley Scott's Nottingham has been pushed back because the grass isn't green enough in England at this time of the year to create the typical Robin Hood landscape, Hollywood A-lister Russell Crowe is on the prowl for his next feature. And according to the Aussie actor himself who spoke to The Sydney Morning Herald, he looks like he will be playing comedian Bill Hicks in a biopic of his life which has been written by unknown Kiwi scribe Mark Staufer.

Bill Hicks was a successful stand up in the late 80's and early 90's whose rants on relegion, politics and social life, often played together with his problems of drug and alcohol abuse which led to his death from pancreatic cancer at 32.

Crowe seems perfect as the cocky and always in control comedian, who has a very odd and sickly charm about him.

Apart from Nottingham which is set to get underway in March, Crowe has no other upcoming roles on his CV as he has already filmed his parts in Body of Lies and State of Play.
