Sherlock Holmes to get the "reimaging" treatment

holmes_by_paget.jpgIt would seem that not even London's most famous detective is safe from the big screen "reimaging" treatment. Variety are reporting that The Descent helmer Neil Marshall will direct a new Sherlock Holmes feature for Warner Brothers that will see "Holmes losing some of his Victorian stuffiness and being more adventuresome, including playing up his skills as a bare-knuckle boxer and expert swordsman as he goes about solving crimes". So basically, it's less detective work and more action/adventure Indiana Jones action... except with a rather more British fighting style. The trade mentions that they want to do for Sherlock Holmes what Christopher Nolan did for Batman by giving the character a clean slate and clear objectives without some of the nonsense that has been seen in many of the film and tv adaptations in the past. The character of Holmes, has been around the block more times than Dracula, so that would seem like a good plan. It's been said that this will be Marshall's next feature after the currently filming Doomsday. I'm fine with all this, a good Holmes detective movie could work just fine and I've seen many an adapted Sherlock Holmes tale on the small screen and most of the time they are horrible, so subtle changes are welcome. Just don't strip the character of his main characteristic, HIS DETECTIVE SKILLS, otherwise it's not really Sherlock Holmes at all. source - variety, coming soon
