Brandon Routh will don the red and blue for WB's new revamp. Clearly Snyder and Team Nolan (co-screenwriters David Goyer, Jonathan Nolan and producer Chris Nolan) want to put their own creative blueprint on this new series and don't want to cause any confusion with the general public, because they desperately need to get over that this ain't no sequel to 'Superman Returns'.
THR also say the rumour is General Zod will be the major villain. I stress it's just a 'rumour' and not yet fact. I liked how the Donner movies handled Zod back in the day, so I'm a little disappointed they would re-tool a character who has already been successfully employed, and I was much more anticipating Brainiac, who seemed the more logical choice. At least it won't be Lex Luthor again, though you can guarantee he'll be in it. My pick for Zod?
Jude Law. I always liked the idea of Law playing Zod when the character was rumoured to appear in 'Superman Returns', and although he's not an actor of great consistency, he makes a good villain when a director allows him to go nuts. I still admire his 'Road to Perdition' performance, and if he could recapture that magic for Zod, they won't find anyone better. 'Superman: The Man of Steel' is on full steam ahead, so expect more major announcements before the end of the year.
