Studio's not interested in Woody Allen's latest flick?
In 2005, the surprise hit movie Match Point starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers propelled veteran director Woody Allen back into the mainstream after a good number of years floundering with quiet releases. Unfortunately for him, it would seem he has reverted back to his "quiet" status after his last movie Scoop made very little impact in the U.S. and didn't even get a release over here in the U.K. Now comes word that his latest movie Cassandra's Dream is struggling at Cannes. Filmstalker through Teletext are reporting that the film which deals with Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell as financially struggling brothers who turn to crime, is sadly generating very little interest at the festival. Could it be destined to go straight to DVD not just in the U.K. but in the U.S. also which would be a huge kick in the teeth for Allen after the success of Match Point and quite embarrassing when it stars the likes of McGregor and Farrell. Match Point was one of my favourite films of 2005, but Scoop was plain awful, though it was one of those awful films that could only be made by a good director and storyteller. You know it's crap but it's quite well made crap.
