Tom Cruise hopes to taste some Salt

Tom Cruise is getting back in the fold after a year's break in 2006. The actor is in line for another film, this time in the Terry George directed Edwin A. Salt. Both George and Cruise have yet to sign on to the movie but both are said to be in talks. Kurt Wimmer wrote the drama. He previously scripted the remake to The Thomas Crown Affair (co-wrote), The Recruit (co-wrote), Equilibrium and Ultraviolet, the latter two he also directed himself.

The studio's hope is for Cruise to play the title character, a CIA officer who is fingered by a defector as a Russian sleeper spy. Salt must elude capture by his superiors and sets out to reunite with his family and prove his innocence.
Hotel Rwanda director Terry George has just wrapped up on Reservation Road which is out in October starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jennifer Connelly, Mark Ruffalo and Mira Sorvino. I would expect to see a trailer for that very soon. Any movie which stars Tom Cruise immediately has my interest. Variety claim the movie is a drama but by the sound of that synopsis, I would love to see this as a fast paced and exciting thriller. However, the choice of George as a director, would point to it going the character based drama direction, so I guess Variety must be right.
