I've been impatiently waiting for a full-length trailer for the
Guillermo Del Toro produced horror
Don't Be Afraid of The Dark since that
effective teaser was released just after Comic Con last August - and finally
Empire delivered the goods late on Friday with a U.K. trailer. Watch it below; Why has it taken so long for the full length trailer to be released? Hell, why has it taken so long for the film to be released in general having originally been slated for a January 2011 opening? Well you can put it down to Miramax's long drawn out sale but the film will finally see the light of day thanks to FilmDistrict on Aug 12th. Directed by Del Toro protege
Troy Nixey from a screenplay Del Toro and
Matthew Robbins cooked up together, the film centers on young girl (
Bailee Madison) who moves in with her father (
Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (
Katie Holmes) and they discover they are sharing the house with devilish creatures. The original, a 1973 ABC telepic centered on the couple but the shift of focus seems to mostly be on the kid who spookily looks like she could be A) the real life daughter of Katie Holmes or B) Katie Holmes as a young gal. So isn't it weird she is not playing either here? As is sometimes the case the more footage we've seen from the film the less atmospheric or truly scary it seems, however this still looks a notch or seven above the usual regurgitated horror we are fed every year. There's no slashering or people being maned via torture porn, or death stalking our characters, or Paranormal Activity-esque low-budget crap. This is a good old-fashioned, spook-a-minute horror, perhaps in the vein of the brilliant Sam Raimi movie
