VENOM spin-off movie?

Just when you thought Marvel could do no wrong. IESB are reporting the unexpected rumor that Marvel executives are pushing through with a Venom stand-alone movie with discussions already underway with A-List writers for what could be one of the Marvel's tentpole releases of 2010. The proposed movie will not effect SPIDER-MAN 4 in anyway as Marvel own the rights to the Venom character and not Sony, who Marvel let the studio use in the last Spider-Man movie.

If it is true, it leaves Marvel able to use the Venom character however they like... except they can't use the character of Spider-Man. So you could put Venom against or in conjuction with other Spidey villains and other heroes like Hulk or Iron Man for example but not Spider-Man, though the site is pretty clear that the big monster is getting his own film, probably a Jekyll and Hyde affair. Once they find a writer, they are good to go on developing this thing because of the interim deal between Marvel and the WGA. No word if they are going to go after Topher Grace to play the character, my guess would be not. Sounds so out there, it can't be true right? What about the Marvel characters like Captain America or Black Panther? I would rather see a dozen characters on screen than Venom getting his own movie. He was the worst frikkin' part of the whole Spider-Man universe on screen and was made out into being such a boring villain. I'm rather baffled by this... thoughts?
