Wes Craven won't say no to SCREAM 4

I honestly thought by the time that Wes Craven directed his first movie in five years with Red Eye in 2005 that we would never seen him return to the Scream franchise. It really felt like he had done and said all he wanted to with the series. With all the outlandish scoops we've heard over the years for a fourth film, I kept confident he would resist the urge of going back but in the last month or so, it really does look like it's happening this time around. We've heard the Weinsteins have a script they have greenlit, the first that has fallen into their laps in years that they think is good enough to film.

Could Craven be convinced to return? We know he is currently his first originally written slasher in YEARS with 25/8 which is due out next year... he's done sequels before to his franchises after a long gap (he did the last Freddy solo movie New Nightmare in 1994). Maybe he could do for Freddy, what he did for Scream? Craven spoke at the Con...
"There has been contact. I haven't spoken to Bob Weinstein but they have checked with my agent. I'm not saying 'no.'" It really is: Is there a script?," he says. "What I found increasingly in the Scream series is that the script were being written while we were shooting. The first one was a written script, it went out to the whole town and the Weinsteins jumped on it. There was very little changed in that. But 2 and 3? There were a lot of other people, including myself, writing on those."
We've heard previously that the mysterious script involves Sidney and some of the main characters from the original movie but at the same time will introduce new characters who can spin the series off in other directions. I love the Scream trilogy, love all three of them... even though they do decrease in quality with each one. I think the time away from the franchise could really help here and if the script is as clever at knowing and depicting "fourth" movies of other franchises... it could be brilliant. No, really I do. source - shock till you drop
