10 Greatest One Man Band Albums

5. Music of My Mind - Stevie Wonder

By the mid '70s, Stevie Wonder really had the creative golden ticket. After cutting off ties with his contract with Motown making simple pop records, Wonder would go on a career streak for the ages, with each album outdoing the next in terms of letter perfect soul music. Before things really took off though, Stevie kicked back with a record that was him from skin to core with Music of My Mind.

Being inspired by the more far reaching aspects of Marvin Gaye's recent work with What's Going On, most of these songs are almost like a free flowing narrative from Stevie, as he expounds on every emotion he can think of from the frustration taking place on Evil to the ray of sunshine that turns up in Love Having You Around. This was also a time for Stevie to start experimenting, putting different effects on his vocals that almost seem to put his voice in perfect harmony with his keyboard work.

This proved to be only the beginning of Wonder's hot streak, eventually topping himself with albums like Talking Book before making one of the greatest albums of the modern age with Songs in the Key of Life. The glory days of Lil Stevie were over...it was time to do some growing up.
