5 Reasons Why "Bad Romance" Is Lady Gaga's "Thriller"

3. Signature Song from the Signature Album

c1691ffd41f9198b66c7889fc5e549dd (1) If I had to pick one career highlight for both Jackson and Gaga these two songs, and videos, would be it. Not only are both of these tracks iconic, but they also enjoyed great commercial success. In 1999, Thriller was selected as N#1 out of the 100 Greatest Music Videos of All Time. Similarly, Bad Romance was nominated for ten categories at the MTV Awards in 2010, winning seven of them, including Video of the Year and Best Dance Video. Both singles have also won Grammy Awards. Awards and accolades aside, the words 'Thriller' and 'Michael Jackson' are now practically synonymous, thirty years on. Whilst we cannot yet place such a claim upon 'Lady Gaga' and 'Bad Romance', it is clearly one of her most noteworthy undertakings in her five short years in the public eye. Even her longer and more showy, videos (Born This Way, Judas, Marry the Night) failed to make quite the same impact, although still popular. This is reminiscent of Thriller's release, with the lead single of the album being the smash-hit (Thriller) with steady well-remember, but less memorable tracks, surrounding it, namely Beat It and Billie Jean.
