DRIVE Soundtrack - 80's Eurosynth-styled Eclectic Pop!

One of the best film soundtracks of the year is available to pre-order now in both the U.K. and U.S.

Nicolas Windfing Refn's part heist movie/part slick car thriller/part Grindhouse gore fest Drive, which I saw premiere in Cannes and fell in love with 2/3rd's of it (but hated the final act) has an immediately striking musical tone that has a warm & fuzzy feel... one that that relaxes you. The opening of the movie is like a late night road trip home, slightly melancholy and longing but tunes that understand and comfort. The opening credits play to these Eurosynth-styled songs, which along with the vibrant pinks and Miami Vice inspired skylines, gives off a very 80's feel to what is a 70's inspired film. I loved the music from the film more than anything else and Lakeshore Records will release Drive: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack in the U.S. on September 13th on the same day as Film District release the movie (it will be available digitally on September 16th) and it's perhaps the kick-ass soundtrack of the summer. Amazon.co.uk also have the soundtrack listed for a September 6th release in the U.K. The soundtrack features unique music from Cliff Martinez, the former drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dickies who said of the score;
One thing that was unique for me about this project was having songs exert such a strong influence on the score," said Martinez. "That helped to create a unified, one-size-fits-all, style of soundtrack...the 80s electronic pop style made a lot of sense to me. I knew that Nicolas was in love with that sound and I saw a way to acknowledge it with vintage synth sounds and cover most of the dramatic food groups while referencing that style."
Here's an example of the wonderful tunes that I can guarantee will be playing around in your head for days on end; Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx ("Nightcall") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bZzL6KW2Fw Desire ("Under Your Spell") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K7rmxjk5RQ The Chromatics ("Tick of the Clock") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFJRJNtvzMM
