Sonisphere 2014: 10 Really Obscure Metallica Songs You Need To Request

Metallica By Request With the announcement of their decision to tour in Europe next Summer, including a date co-headlining Sonisphere UK 2014 alongside Iron Maiden, Metallica have stated that they'll be taking requests from fans. A statement on the bands official website proudly proclaims that "we're going to give you, the ticket holders, the chance to vote on what songs you would like to hear at the show(s) that you attend. It will be pretty simple... pick up your ticket(s) online and you'll receive an e-mail shortly after with a code and a link to a site on which you may cast your ballot" Perfectly simple - hugely exciting. Die hard Metallica fans will tell you that the band are infamous for not performing a certain selection of their own material live - or at least withholding it for special occasions like 'Whiskey In The Jar' - so regardless of how many people will want to hear the usual favorites like 'Enter Sandman' or 'Master Of Puppets', there are going to be a number of really obscure songs that NEED to be performed. This should be embraced as an opportunity to get classics and less heralded songs (at least by the band themselves) played out live, and early ticket buyers should be urged to avoid too obvious choices. Don't get me wrong, Metallica are very liberal with their set list, constantly adding new material in and making sure to spice things up and make each performance as unique to each venue as possible. Just check LiveMetallica.com - an official site which has legally sold every Metallica set list recorded at virtually every concert the band have played since 2003 - you'll see that for yourself. This list is really about those songs the band might have forgotten about (or even that they want to forget about) and those tracks that the fans have been literally dying to hear for years. They are the songs that need to appear in the Metallica By Request set at Sonisphere 2014.
