10 Funniest Moments of 2012

9. Mitt Romney vs Big Bird

The former Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made headlines late last year when he pledged to cut state funding of the American broadcasting service PBS, causing a rabble of ardent Sesame Street supporters to take to Twitter and start badmouthing him. During one of Romney's speeches, he famously declared, "I like PBS. I like Big Bird. But I'm not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for". Within hours, Twitter exploded with fierce defenders of PBS and all of the childhoods it has nurtured, and some went as far as to create Fake Big Bird accounts, whereby they facetiously expressed their displeasure with Romney's speech in hilarious fashion, with one such account declaring, "Yo Mitt Romney, Sesame Street is brought to you today by the letters F & U!". If there's one thing you don't do while trying to win an election, it's besmirch one of the most beloved children's institutions of all time.
