10 Hilarious Internet Responses To Restored Jesus Painting

It was supposed to be the glorious restoration of a historic painting of Jesus Christ. Instead, it was transformed into a smudged crayon sketch of a potato-faced monkey. Possibly one of the funniest moments in art history started when an old church in Spain needed to restore a 1910 depiction of Christ himself, called 'Ecce Homo'. The woman to do it was 82 year old Cecilia Gimenez, who, with the Lord guiding her hand, turned Jesus into what looked like a doped up lion. The painting, before the restoration, was a huge money maker for the church, drawing in £57,000 on ticket sales alone. The artist came to an agreement last year which means she is now entitled to 49 percent of profits generated from the bodged Jesus, which still hangs in the church. So all in all, it worked out well for her. Of course, the World Wide Web was quick to take hold of the hilarious image and these absolutely golden responses followed. I love you, Internet.

10. Restored Jesus Makeup How-To

This absolute legend decided to paint her face in the style of the Holy Potato himself. Those empty eyes, the exaggerated lip line and that cheeky little expression - it's all there. We know what we're doing for Halloween this year.

9. Fresco Jesus Twitter Update

Fresco Jesus took to Twitter, and is still there today, proving we were born of risen apes, not fallen angels. His bio reads: 'Once a handsome fresco now a hedgehog.' Genius.

8. Fresco Jesus Stars In 'The Shining'

"HERE'S, JESUS!" Possibly the most terrifying adaptation of the Stephen King novel to date: Fresco Christ's soulless eyes bursting through a door with an axe. Jack Nicholson shouldn't have bothered.
