10 Things Only Gym Instructors Will Understand

When we say 2 more reps, you should know that that means 5...

The gym. It's probably the only place on Earth that everyone pays to have access to but no one wants to actually wants to visit on a regular basis. Why is keeping fit and healthy such hard work? Normally when you tell people that you're a gym instructor, two things will happen. They'll either become overly interested and expect free fitness tips and sessions or they'll walk away from you. Some people will find your god/goddess like physiques intimidating and no one wants to be judged when they're eating at an all you can eat buffet because they're already judging themselves. They don't need the fitness instructor frowning at them as well. Being a gym instructor means that you not only have to motivate, encourage and support every person that walks through that door, but you also realise fairly quickly into the job that these people also expect you to be their life mentor and counsellor. Hopefully you enjoy what you do and find it worthwhile, even with the guys who rarely work out because they're too busy taking gym selfies...

10. People Are Lazy

Most people nowadays expect long lasting results with a quick fix. Unfortunately, these don't exist. If you want to lose weight or build muscle, it's going to take time and a lot of hard work. But the problem is that people don't want to work hard, especially those girls that come into the gym with a full face of make up on and stop their fast walk on the treadmill when they start sweating. You've also learned that people who suffer from laziness also have poor form and usually have no idea what they're doing on some of the machines. It's funny for you to watch for a few seconds but after a few minutes, they're probably going to do themselves some damage.
