11 Most Bizarre Zoo Accidents

6. Tatiana The Siberian Tiger Scales Six-Metre-High Wall Before Killing A Man On Christmas Day (San Francisco, 2007)

Tatiana the Siberian tiger already had a reputation for being overly aggressive having bitten and clawed the flesh off the arm of zookeeper Lori Komejan during a public feeding back in December 2005. However, the incident for which she is most infamous happened two years later - as she attacked three visitors at San Fransisco Zoo in the USA, killing one, on Christmas Day 2007. Somehow, Tatiana managed to escape from her tiger grotto - despite it being surrounded by a six-metre-high wall and a four-and-a-half-metre-wide moat - and killed 17-year-old Carlos Sousa Jr., as well as attacking two others before she was shot by police. It is still unclear how Tatiana got out of the enclosure although, due to the extreme precautions put in place to prevent such an incident taking place, foul play by humans is widely believed to have taken place.
