12 Things You Didn't Know About Paul Walker

10. He Turned Down An Offer To Play Superman In 2003

When Brett Ratner was hired to reboot the Superman movie franchise in 2002, he at one stage offered the role to Paul Walker among other actors. He turned it down, however, after having a discussion with Richard Donner, who directed the first two Christopher Reeve Superman films. On the chat, Walker said, €œWe had conversations and by the end of it, the closing thing I said, €˜Do you think I need it, should I do it?€™ said, €˜For what sake?€™ I said, €˜Financially.€™ He said, €˜No kid, you do it if you want to do it.€™ I said, €˜Well I don€™t think I want to die as Superman.€™ And he said, €˜Well there€™s your answer, don€™t do it.€™ And that was it.€ In another interview, Walker said, "I could have made a gazillion dollars on that franchise. I could probably have bought my own fleet of jets or my own island...You know what? I don€™t need it. My favorite brand of running shoes costs $23. I rarely pay more than $40 for my jeans. Throw in a T-shirt and that costs me $20 or $10 if I buy it on the beach. I don€™t need a gazillion dollars to manage that kind of lifestyle.€ Instead, Walker opted for the decidedly less-intense and demanding call of the Fast and Furious franchise, and given how fickle comic book fanboys can be, who can blame him?
