It was one hell of a year, and as January rolls to a close and we all embrace 2014, it's time to say goodbye to 2013.

2013 was an incredible year, and one that is worth revisiting one last time before we all return to having an on-off love affair with our New Year's Resolutions. Through ruminating on the year that was, we've compiled a list of 52 of the best images from throughout. These are the images that moved us in varying degrees of sadness, astonishment or just overall appreciation of their existence when sifting through the thousands of potential candidates for inclusion. Just a heads up, the images contained within can be pretty emotionally intense, so you have been warned. It was a pretty mind-blowing year all things considered, as we witnessed many a fall from grace, coupled with heartwarming tales of personal achievement all wrapped up in the advancement of technology in some spectacular ways. Although now that we're into 2014 and the years' stories begin to take shape, there are plenty tales to tell that will hopefully prevent us from repeating any past mistakes going forward.
