Scotland's 10 Most Haunted Places

Hoots mon, there's something loose aboot this hoose.

Scotland is a small, if somewhat eccentric country, with a population at the 5 million mark, and it's also a strong contender for the crown of Most Haunted Country In The World. With a violent and brutal history, it has given rise to some of the most compelling and romanticised ghost stories the Internet has ever seen, and some of its cities are so steeped in ghostly history that they have a thriving ghost tour trade. If you're lucky, you might even get savagely attacked by an apparition while you wander through the spooky sites. As well as the usual castles and sprawling houses, spooks crop up in Glasgow and other parts of the old industrial heartland, which may seem like more unlikely places for a creepy tale than the castles and rolling hills of the Highlands. Add to that haunted roads and beaches, and it feels like it's harder to find somewhere that isn't haunted in Scotland. These are perhaps some of the oldest ghosts in the world, and inevitably, visiting the places they haunt is an electrifying experience - even for those who colour themselves cynical. They reek with a sense of the uncanny, and the disquieting feeling that you are being watched, and it's unlikely you will enjoy a peaceful night's rest after experiencing them...
