Mums know everything, that is a fact. As well as always being able to find your keys (who'dve thought to look under things?) and knowing whether you've smoked a cigarette from 30 paces, it turns out that she may also be a scientific genius. Granted, a lot of old wives tales are codswallop ("If your right eye twitches there will soon be a birth in the family." - what?), but the latest research is beginning to suggest that your dear old mum (and her mum, and her's before that, stretching back ad infinitum) has managed to beat science to the truth by a good few hundred years or so. If you listen carefully, you'll be able to hear a resounding chorus of "I told you so". Whether it's a cosy home remedy for your sniffles, a slightly dubious-sounding hangover cure, or an insistence that you put a coat on lest you "catch your death", it looks like mother knows best after all.
