10 Copa America Players Newcastle Could Realistically Target

The Toon won't break the bank - but they should keep an eye on these South American stars.

Newcastle United have reportedly promised they will provide new head coach Steve McClaren with a "transfer war chest" - rumoured to be anywhere between £25 million and £60 million - this summer in a bid to significantly improve a squad that only managed to avoid relegation on the final day of the 2014-15 Premier League season. Such money must be used wisely because the Magpies already need to strengthen at centre-back, in defensive-midfield, out wide and up front, with the club chasing at least two strikers this summer. And that does not even take into account the potential for players to leave as well, which could force Newcastle to be even more active in the transfer market than they currently intend. Chief scout Graham Carr has already identified some potential transfer targets but he will no doubt also be watching the 2015 Copa America in Chile closely, deciding if any of the players from the 12 South American nations on display are worth a bid this summer. Realistically, Newcastle could target a whole host of players from the tournament, with Peruvians, Jamaicans, Chileans, Uruguayans, Ecuadorians, Mexicans, Brazilians and Paraguayans likely offering the best value for money. So here are 10 players Newcastle United could realistically target who are currently at the 2015 Copa America in Chile.
