If there's something to be said for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, it is that the man has ambition. He may be a ruthless megalomaniac, who cuts the managerial cord as easily as he drives a hard bargain. But time and time again, he has attempted to lure some of the world's finest talent to White Hart Lane, despite their lack of recent success. They have seen some exquisite talent prized from their clutches, including Dimitar Berbatov, Luka Modric and most recently, Gareth Bale, but what Levy strives to achieve is shaking his opposite number down for every last penny, before investing in a similar calibre of player. Audacious moves have been made for players of a mouth-watering ilk, with experience seeping out of their ears. It doesn't matter whether they have won a World Cup, a Champions League, or even lifted titles as captain of the arch-enemy - Levy strives for the best. Indeed, there have been a number of players with World Cup winners' medals in their bedside drawer who came so close to strutting their stuff at White Hart Lane on a regular basis. In the case of Zinedine Zidane, however, when pressed about his apparent rejection by Gerry Francis for being 'too wooden' in 1995, his agent retorted that he 'doesn't think he has heard of Tottenham Hotspur'.
