10 Worst World Cup Teams Ever

7. Greece (1994)

Any Greek fans who jetted off to the US to watch their team compete in the 1994 World Cup probably ended up wishing they hadn't bothered. The Greeks actually enjoyed a fantastic qualifying run, going undefeated as they booked their place in the finals, and were fancied to compete in a group that featured Nigeria, Argentina, and Bulgaria.

At the time, third-place finishers in the group could still get through to the next round, so Greece had a decent shot of making the knockout stages, only to completely blow it. They were 1-0 down just two minutes into their first game against Argentina and ended up on the wrong side of a 4-0 hammering, with Gabriel Batistuta scoring a memorable hat-trick and Diego Maradona scoring his last ever international goal.

Things went from bad to worse for Greece when they lost 4-0 once again to Bulgaria in their second game, and then the Nigerians finished them off with a comfortable 2-0 win, sending them home with a dismal record of no goals scored and ten conceded.
