Six months it has taken for it to be confirmed, but Steve McClaren looks like he will finally be named head coach of Newcastle United within the next week. Ever since Alan Pardew departed for Crystal Palace at the turn of the year, McClaren has been favourite for the role. John Carver was placed in caretaker, and then interim, control of the Magpies, but McClaren has been the most-likely permanent successor to Pardew for almost half a year.
