If there's one universal language that we all speak, it's SPORTS. No matter where you live, or who you are, the one common denominator that we can all agree on is that we all love sports. Whether it's a particular sport, a team, or a player, everybody has their favorite. Debating about sports just might be funner than debating about wrestling, but I digress. Throughout my life time I have seen a lot of holy sh*t moments in sports. Things that we'll never see again and moments that we probably take for granted. The purpose of this article is to relive some of those memories. Whether they're personal to you or personal to your grandparents, sports transcends time and that's what makes them so beautiful. I hope this article can bring back some memories and maybe even put a smile on your face. Or maybe you'll learn something you never knew before. Honorable Mentions: Super Bowl 1 was a holy sh*t moment because it was the first of its kind and started a new era in football. The game featured The Green Bay Packers crushing The Kansas City Chiefs 35-10. The game might not have been close but it was the catalyst of things to come. Thank god for football and the Green Bay Packers making history, right Munk? The Dolphins perfect season is definitely holy sh*t worthy, while The Patriots got close, they weren't able to catch the incredible 1972 Dolphins. They definitely had some close calls along their way to perfection though. The only negative thing I've ever heard said about the team is that they played a 'soft' schedule. Call it whatever you want but the 72' Dolphins went all the way and became The World Champions. Wanna know about one of the greatest boxers of all time? Ask your grandfather because he'll tell you all about the legendary Rocky Marciano. From 1948-1955 Rocky Marciano was THE man. He was not only undefeated as a boxer but he knocked out 43 of his 49 opponents, holy s**t. The man was far ahead of his time and is often over looked in history. He died at the young age of 45 in a plane crash but Marciano will undoubtably go down as one of the greatest boxers of all time, in any era. A perfect 49-0, Rocky was a God amongst men. Cal Ripken Jr's streak will never be broken. The Iron Man played in 2,632 consecutive games, breaking Gehrig's streak by a whopping 502 games. Ripken ended the streak on his own volition, choosing to do so on his own terms. Ripken received a standing ovation from both fans and players alike. It goes without saying, Ripken's streak is far more impressive then people give him credit for. Who doesn't take off days in baseball?! Cal Ripken Jr. The bottom line is, corrupted or not, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa SAVED baseball in 1998. Their home run race was amazing to watch unfold. One after another, the two competed til the end. McGwire finished the year with 70 home runs while Sosa finished with 66. Both numbers at the time were unheard of. Then years later, the moment was tarnished with the whole steroid scandal. If not for that, this would still be one of the coolest moments in sports history, but unfortunately, it's forever tainted.
