5 Sports Stars Who Got Into Hot Water Over Twitter

A rundown of the top 5 sports personalities that have been left red-faced in 140 characters or less.

5. Lewis Hamilton

The F1 star has been no stranger to controversy this year when it comes to social media. He made a massive gaffe after tweeting a picture of sensitive telemetry data concerning his and team mate Jenson Button€™s qualifying laps before the Belgian Grand Prix in September. Whilst McLaren said it had not done "much damage", Button himself was less than impressed. "I'll say disappointed€, said Button when asked about the incident. "We work so hard to improve the car and to keep things like that private." "I don't think it's for me to be angry with Lewis because it's not a personal thing. It's more the information that we work so hard to keep secret and private, that was the thing I didn't want to see on Twitter." And the former world champion was left red-faced again in October after accusing Button of €œdisrespect€, after wrongly assuming that his McLaren team mate had €˜unfollowed€™ him on the social networking site. €œJust noticed @jensonbutton unfollowed, that€™s a shame... I thought we respected one another but clearly he doesn€™t,€ the 27-year-old tweeted out to his 1,000,000+ followers. When the driver realised that in fact Button had never followed him, he swiftly back peddled on his previous statement, in an attempt to try and dispel any rumours of a rift between the two (supposed) friends. €œMy bad. just found out Jenson never followed me. Don€™t blame him! Need to be on Twitter more!€ Lewis, please think before you tweet next time!
