Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is stepping up his interest in Blackburn Rovers defender Scott Dann, according to The Sun yesterday.

McLeish is mulling over a summer transfer move for the impressive Rovers defender who previously played for him at Birmingham City.

Both McLeish and Dann won last year’s Carling Cup trophy for Birmingham before an end of season crash saw them relegated to the Championship. Both would leave the club just months later, McLeish making the controversial move across the city to rivals Aston Villa and Dann in a six million move to Blackburn Rovers on an August 31st transfer deadline day splash, signing a four-year contract at Blackburn.

With Blackburn struggling in the relegation zone going into the final third of the season, they would be willing to sell Dann if they dropped down a division but they would near a fee similar to the one they splashed out last summer to let him leave.
