Arsenal Transfer News: Gonzalo Higuain Deal At "An Advanced Stage"

GonzaloHiguain Gonzalo Higuain's move to Arsenal is at "an advanced stage" according to The Sun. The Gunners are set to fend off interest from Juventus by breaking their club-record transfer fee to sign the Argentinian, and will pay Real Madrid £22 million for the striker, which dwarfs the £15 million paid to Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin in 2009. According to Higuain's father Jorge, Arsenal are yet to agree personal terms with the striker, despite reports to the contrary claiming the 25-year old would be picking up £150,000-per-week at the Emirates from next season. But the deal is at "an advanced stage", says Higuain Snr.
€œNothing has yet been signed but I assure you the negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage. €œWe won€™t agree a contract before the clubs reach a transfer deal. I€™m sure Arsenal made a big offer, and Juventus.€
Higuain scored 16 La Liga goals last season and is viewed by manager Arsene Wenger as the ideal man to add much-needed firepower to his forward line next season. Renowned for his pace and strength, the striker moved to Madrid from Argentinian outfit River Plate in 2006, and has racked up 48 goals in 80 games in the last three seasons alone. But he has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu with Real chasing Gareth Bale of Tottenham, Liverpool's Luis Suarez and even Napoli's Edinson Cavani. Andrey Arshavin, Arsenal's current record signing, is set for a move back to Zenit St Petersburg after failing to establish himself in the Premier League. The Russian flop was released by the Gunners this summer after four years in North London.
