Arsenal Transfer News: Luis Suarez Saga To Go Down To The Wire

Mirror. The Gunners have already seen two bids for the Uruguayan rejected but are not prepared to give up the chase, even if it means the transfer going down to the wire. The whole deal revolves around a contentious £40 million clause in the 26-year-old's contract which the striker's advisers believe entitles Suarez to leave Liverpool. Arsenal's second bid for the former Ajax man stood at £40 million and £1, apparently activating the player's release clause. However, Liverpool maintain that clause only means they are required to inform Suarez of the offer but that they do not necessarily have to sell, and indeed they mean not to. The deal is now at a standstill with the transfer saga threatening to go down to a tense final day on August 31, at which point the window will slap shut until January. Suarez clearly appears unsettled and Arsenal have been in a position before where they have had unhappy players on their books who were seeking moves away, and the Londoners found it difficult to persuade them to stay. Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor and more recently Robin van Persie all declared they wished to leave the Emirates and were eventually granted their wish. Now the Gunners are hoping the boot is on the other foot this time and that Suarez will walk out on Liverpool, but that only seems likely to happen if the player actively seeks a move away from Merseyside. Arsenal are prepared to play the waiting game and will not make an improved offer, while Suarez€™s advisers have already sought legal advice, threatening to turn the situation ugly. They may even take the matter to the Premier League for arbitration as they believe Arsenal have now activated the clause that allows Suarez to leave.
